Cultural Differences: Focus on Behavioral Health

Thursday 11, 2017 9:00:00 AM – 4:30:00 PM

According to former Surgeon General, David Satcher, “when it comes to mental health, culture counts.” [Mental Health: Culture, Race and Ethnicity, 1999] For years now, cultural competency and diversity training has been required in many agencies, but what does culture have to do with our practice in behavioral health? In this experiential presentation, we will examine our own culture as a beginning place to understanding other cultures we face in our practice settings. We will also discuss the impact of culture on our assessments and treatments.
